Victoria Samanidou PhD (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece). Dr Victoria Samanidou is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry in the Chemistry Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). Her current research activities include: Modern sample preparation techniques used in the development of validated HPLC and GC methods for the determination of inorganic and organic substances in biological samples, pharmaceuticals, forensics and toxicology samples, food, samples of environmental interest. She has published more than 150 original research articles in peer reviewed journals and 50 reviews and chapters in scientific books. H-index 29 (source Scopus February 2018). She is member of editorial board of more than 10 scientific journals and she has reviewed almost 450 manuscripts in more than 80 scientific journals. She was also guest editor in 6 special issues in scientific journals. She is currently President of The Association of Greek Chemists-Division of Central and Western Macedonia . Edward Muntean PhD (University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj Napoca, Romania). is professor at the Department of Food Sciences - , teaching Analytical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry for undergraduate students and Advanced Techniques of Food Analysis and Chemical Risk Analysis for Master students. His studies include a B.Sc. in Organic Chemical Engineering (Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca), postgraduate studies in Applied Informatics&Programming (Technical University Cluj Napoca), a M.Sc. in Biochemistry&Biotechnology of Plant Pigments (USAMV Cluj Napoca) and a PhD in Chemistry (Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca). He published eleven books focusing on analytical and inorganic chemistry and more than 100 papers in scientific journals. In the past years, he was concerned mostly in the chemistry and biochemistry of carotenoids, involving analytical strategies, biochemical researches and applications in food industry. Presently, his research focuses on applications of high performance liquid chromatography and ion chromatography in detecting emerging food contamination and food adulteration. Marcello Locatelli PhD (University "G. d' Annunzio" of Chieti-Pescara, Chieti, Italy). is professor and his research activity is aimed at the development and validation of chromatographic methods for the qualitative and quantitative determination of biologically active molecules in human and animal, cosmetics, food, and environmental complex matrices. These procedures have been applied to different analytes and drug associations also finding application in clinical and pre-clinical studies, to characterize new delivery systems of the active principle to improve their pharmacological properties. In the development of the method are applied predictive models and chemometric both for the optimization of extraction protocols and for final data processing. Particular attention is given to the innovative (micro) extraction techniques and new instrumental configurations for complex matrix quantitative analysis. More than 89 manuscripts, 87 congress communications, 1 patent subject to approval, 9 book chapters and 2 books, and guest editor for 5 special issues attested scientific activity (based on Scopus (12nd of February 2018), h-index 19). Abuzar Kabir PhD (Florida International University, Miami, USA). is a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. His research focusses on the synthesis, characterization and applications of novel sol-gel derived advanced material systems in the form of chromatographic stationary phases, surface coatings of high-efficiency microextraction sorbents, nanoparticles, microporous and mesoporous functionalized sorbents, molecularly imprinted polymers for analyzing trace and ultra-trace level concentration of polar, medium polar, nonpolar, ionic analytes, heavy metals, and organometallic pollutants from complex sample matrices. His inventions, fabric phase sorptive extraction (FPSE), and dynamic fabric phase sorptive extraction (DFPSE), capsule phase microextraction (CPME), molecular imprinting technology, superpolar sorbents, In-Vial microextraction (IVME) have drawn global attention. He has developed and formulated numerous high efficiency sol-gel hybrid inorganic-organic sorbents based on Silicon, Titanium, Zirconium, Tantalum, Germanium chemistries. Verónica Pino Estévez PhD ( University of La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain).
is an Associate Professor at the University of La Laguna (ULL) since 2015. She served as Research Associate in 2010-2015 with the prestigious “Ramón y Cajal”-I3, being also a “Juan de la Cierva” Associate in 2005-2008. Professor Pino got her B.S. in Chemistry in 1997 at ULL with Science Graduate Award, and her PhD in 2002 with Doctorate Extraordinary Award. The Canary Government awarded her with a Special Mention for Young Researchers in 2003. She has been a visiting scientist, post doc and visiting professor in several institutions: Wake-Forest University (2000), Canary Institute of Agrarian Research (2002), Iowa-State University (2003), Université Claude-Bernard (2005), and The University of Toledo (UT) (2006 and 2008), being Adjunct Faculty at UT in 2008-2012. Elia Psillakis PhD (Technical University of Crete, Greece). is a Water Chemistry Professor at the School of Environmental Engineering. She received her degree in Chemistry from the Universitè Montpellier II, France (1994) with Summa Cum Laude and her PhD from the University of Bristol, U.K (1997). In 2007, she was selected for a Fulbright Research Fellowship and used it at CALTECH, USA. Her research activities focus on (i) understanding and applying novel sample preparation methods to the detection of trace amounts of organic pollutants, (ii) the environmental fate of organic contaminants in natural or engineered environments and (iii) environmental sensors. To date her investigations have resulted in one patent, five book chapters and 79 publications in ISI Journals with more than 5600 citations, an h-index=39 and three “Top cited article awards”. EP has given a number of keynote/invited talks and lectures in International conferences and University departments. From 2005-2013, she was a EU expert evaluator for the Marie-Curie excellence fellowships, and in 2012-2013 she acted as the vice-chair of the European chemistry evaluation panel. EP has been the principal investigator of different funded research projects and has acted as a research collaborator for many others. From 2014-2016 she acted as the Deputy Rector of Academic Affairs and Research at the Technical University of Crete. Theo Noij PhD (Charles River Laboratories, Den Bosch, The Netherlands/Avans University of Applied Sciences, Breda, The Netherlands). Theo Noij is Principal Research Scientist Chemistry at Charles River Laboratories in Den Bosch (NL) and Associate Professor at the Avans University in Breda (NL), in the research area of Analytical Techniques in the Life Sciences. His research includes development of chemical and biomedical analytical assays covering sample preparation, GC, UPLC ICP and MS analysis as well as cell based assays and immunoassay tools. Application areas cover forensic laboratory science, environmental research, biomedical research, toxicology, and food and pharmaceuticals. His expertise also covers laboratory management and quality assurance. Before he joined Charles River in 2004 (as NOTOX at that time), Theo was research manager in chemical water quality and human health at the KWR water research institute. All together he has over 30 years of experience in various roles as analytical chemist and research manager. He obtained his PhD at the Eindhoven University of Technology (NL) under professor Carl Cramers. Theo is chairman of the Working Group on Separation Sciences of the Royal Dutch Chemical Society. Matthew Halquist PhD (Department of Pharmaceutics, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, USA). is Assistant Professor and Director of the Bioanalytical Shared Resource Laboratory. He received his Bachelor’s degree in biology in 1998 along minor studies in chemistry and forensics science. After eight years in private industry developing LC-MS bioanalytical methods, he returned to academia and continued working as Technical Director in the Bioanalytical Core Laboratory at VCU and is currently directing collaborations and helping graduate students with their research. Dr. Halquist has over 70 publications and invited presentations. His research interests include bioanalytical techniques for analysis of therapeutic proteins, drugs of abuse, and biomarkers, separation sciences, stability indicating methods, and in vitro devices to evaluate biorelevant drug release. Moucun Yuan PhD (PPD® Laboratories, Richmond, VA , USA). Dr. Yuan acquired his Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changchun, China, and received his PhD from Tokyo University of Fisheries, Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Yuan completed his post-doctoral training at Wright State University, Dayton, OH, US. His research interest is in the field of organic mass spectrometry and 2D-UHPLC separation, especially in the LC/MS quantitation. Dr. Yuan has contributed to the application of 2D UHPLC-MS/MS in bioanalysis, especially in peptide/protein assay. In past 10 years, he has been focused on developing different bioanalytical assay for GLP analysis, such as LC-MS of macromolecules as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and monoclonal antibodies, hybrid compounds including conjugated peptides and fusion proteins, reactive and endogenous compounds in different matrix. He is currently a manager in the analytical laboratory of PPD, Richmond, Virginia. He is managing, mentoring, and providing leadership in new research activities and techniques, and develops the analytical methods for regulated bioanalysis. Mohammad Sharif Khan PhD (Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, USA). Dr. Khan is working at Thayer school of engineering at Dartmouth College. For the last 10 years, he has contributed to different fields of analytical chemistry and separation science. His primary interest in on bio-analytical chemistry, multidimensional chromatography, mass spectrometry, metabolomics and omics data analysis. Dr. Khan is the inventor of pressure tuning GC×GC (Pressure tuning comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography). This innovation was the spotlight for the LCGC article in North America, Europe and Asian edition. Mohammad has also worked on green sample preparation, supercritical extraction, optimization and identification of bioactive molecules from complex matrices and unconventional FTIR, TLC based fingerprinting. Mohammad is recently working on the application of high-resolution omics techniques for clinical application like VOCs from infectious bacteria or breath VOCs to understand the host-microbes interaction mechanism for disease diagnosis, screening, staging, monitoring, surveillance, prediction or prognosis.
